Scholarship Application Form

Academic Year 2006

"Investing In Our Youth Today Will Produce the Leaders of Tomorrow"?

True Joy Ministries would like to recognize high school students by awarding scholarships to exceptional graduates of Harford County Public Schools. Four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Two will be awarded for academic excellence and two will be awarded for outstanding community service/volunteer. We are a new ministry in the community reaching out to Harford County students and promoting higher education.

The criteria are as follows:

Academic Scholarship

  • Must be a Graduating Senior
  • 3.5 or above
  • An acceptance letter from a 4 year college, university, or community college
  • Official high school transcript (sealed)
  • Two letters of recommendation (someone other than parents) from teachers and/or counselors.
  • Provide an envelope to the person(s) completing your recommendation in order for them to seal the letter before returning it to you. Students must complete an Essay: 250 words or more explaining your career goals and your plans to accomplish your goal (this should be typed on a separate sheet of paper)

Community Service Scholarship

  • Must be a Graduating Senior
  • GPA: 2.8 or above
  • An acceptance letter from a 4 year college, university, or community college
  • Official high school transcript (sealed)
  • Must have demonstrated merit in community service/ volunteer
  • Two letters of recommendation (someone other than parents) from educator, pastor, organization, or other community leader who has documented your community service. This documentation must include the exact service you rendered and how many hours each week, month, or for the year. Provide an envelope to the persons completing your recommendation in order for them to seal the letter before returning it to you.
    v Students must complete an Essay: 250 words or more explaining your career goals and your plans to accomplish your goal (this should be typed on a separate sheet of paper)

* You must have a completed application form

All criteria must be met in order for application to be considered. This application must be postmarked no later than April 24, 2006 and sent to:

* Scholarship checks will be sent directly to the fiscal office of the recipient’s choice of college, university, or community college (upon committee verifying an acceptance letter).

The Recipients of the Academic and Community Scholarships will be asked to make an appearance at True Joy Ministries the Sunday following the acceptance of the award to take photos for the local paper and give a brief acceptance speech.
