In just over 3 months, on January 1, 2007, members of the Aberdeen Marching Eagles (along with supporting members of the Orchestra, and Chorus) will be lining up in the West End of London, England, to participate in London s 21st Anniversary New Year s Day Parade. Alongside thousands of performers from all over the world, the Aberdeen Marching Eagles will represent this country and our town by performing for an expected ½ million spectators on the streets of London.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these students, but the cost is fairly steep. Various fundraisers have been held since March. In a final push to raise funds to help defray the substantial travel costs to students, the Aberdeen High School Marching Eagles and Band Boosters are hosting a Tournament of Bands - Marching Band Competition, the Aberdeen Classic, on Saturday, October 28, 2006, at the Aberdeen High School football stadium. This event will feature high school bands from across the tri-state area, competing for top honors in marching band field show competition. Also featured will be a special exhibition performance by the Towson University Tiger Marching Band.
The event will be open to the public, and begins at 6 p.m. We invite all in the community to share in this evening of great music, precision marching, and artistic innovation. Cost of admission is $5 and concessions will be available.
An effort of this magnitude does not happen without the support of our community. Students will be selling ads in our program book and looking for trophy sponsors, while our committee is looking for donations of goods and services.
